AON Business Continuity Management Webinar

How effective was our Business Continuity Plans anyway?                      Picture1Please join Craig Kent, Aon South’s Business Unit Manager: Risk Management together with Junita van der Colff, Managing Director of Protean Business Solutions as they unpack and discuss the impact of COVID-19 on businesses in the context of Business Continuity, the success stories and lessons learnt from the past few months and how businesses can become more resilient going forward.

Our operating environment is rapidly changing and the only constant or known is that change and uncertainty is inevitable. Business Continuity Management should act as a strategic enabler in response to uncertainty, prepare business for business interruption and ultimately minimise the impact of incidents on the business, but generally speaking this is not the case and COVID-19 really highlighted our shortcomings. The ineffective response, lack of preparedness and the detrimental impact of COVID-19 on most businesses has raised some important questions:

·     Why did most Business Continuity Plans fail or not get used in some cases?

·     Is Business Continuity Planning even necessary and how does it add value?

·     What should we be doing differently going forward?

COVID-19 just emphasised the importance of effective Business Continuity Management, but this is not the first nor the last disaster that we will face in our lifetime. It’s therefore of utmost importance to realise that hindsight is beneficial, but foresight is essential.

‘The more businesses understand risk and vulnerability, the better equipped they will be to mitigate disasters when they strike.’- Ban Ki-Moon, UN Secretary General.'
