The photons of light from the sun excite the electrons in the solar cells into a higher state of energy allowing it to act as charge carriers for an electric current. This energy is known as a Direct Current (DC) 12v 24v 36v etc.

In order for this energy to drive our appliances we need a higher voltage (drive) and therefore an inverter is used to change the DC current to a 220v Alternating current ( AC). This current is on the same frequency as our grid (ESKOM).

In South Africa we are fortunate to have most sun hours per day. According to NASSA statistics Pretoria has an average of 6.04 hours sunlight per day all year long.
