With the advent of the information revolution, the education and training landscape not only domestically but worldwide undergo drastic changes. Where higher education traditionally been reserved for a few lucky ones are there today in the knowledge economy in which we find ourselves, a greater expectation of more people to gain access to higher education. In South Africa, told the statistical story. Of the more than 500 000 matriculants who enter annually for the final school examination pass approximately 350,000 and thus qualify to study further in higher education. The existing public higher education institutions can only accommodate about 150 000 new students annually. This means that nearly 200,000 school leavers who annually get access to higher education, but for qualifying and possibly cherish the hope to gain access.
The state is engaged in a struggle to create as soon as possible capacity to accommodate more students. The effect of this is that there a lot of pressure on former African institutions to adopt English as the language and the African higher education offer drastically shrunk over the past 15 years.
Akademia as an initiative of the Solidarity Movement position itself as a private provider of higher education qualifications that are aimed to make people qualified and service for a growing economy. In such a way to make Akademia a great contribution to the progress of South Africa and its people.
Akademia is accredited by the Higher Education Quality Committee of the Council for Higher Education. It is the statutory accreditation accrediting all higher education programs and institutions in South Africa. <a href="http:/
